      DESSERT, LIBBY MARIE July 16, 1917 to Nov. 21, 2003 A Memorial Mass was held November 24 at the All Hallows Catholic Church in La Jolla and graveside services were held November 26, at El Camino Memorial Park, S.D. for Libby Marie Dessert, 87, who died on Friday, November 21. Libby Dessert was born July 16, 1917 in Chicago, Ill. the daughter of Czechoslovakian immigrants, John and Mary Peach. As a young girl she moved to Yuma, Ariz. with her parents where she lived until she married Raymond Bernard Dessert, Jr. June 6, 1937. They moved to El Centro where her husband founded the Dessert Seed Company. Mrs. Dessert became an active and successful businesswoman, quiet yet hard working. For many years, she managed two local businesses, Dessert Flowers and the Coronado Motor Hotel. She will be remembered by her family as a gourmet cook, a talented homemaker, and a gracious hostess who gave parties that were memorable for their festivity. As a creative and thoughtful center of a large extended family, she always thought of everything that would make her family and guests comfortable, whether it was a small gathering or a large dance. Libby was the essence of style and grace, and enjoyed many years in El Centro among friends and family. Among her favorite activities were playing the piano, weekly bridge games, and social gatherings with her many friends. She was an active member of Entre Nous, a popular El Centro social and dance club, as well as the Women ' s 10,000 club. Mrs. Dessert was also an avid international traveler. In the early 1950 ' s she began a life long series of international trips with her husband and family, around the world, to many countries in Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and Europe. Mrs. Dessert was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Dessert Jr. Survivors include her brother, Johnny Peach of Yuma, sister Alice Ames of Solana Beach; daughter, Marie Hinkley of Pine Valley, sons and daughters-in-law, R.B. (Spike) and Kae Dessert III of Kununurra, Australia, Richard Dessert of Los Angeles, Michael and Anne Dessert of La Jolla, and Timothy and Lucie Dessert of El Centro; nineteen grandchildren, and sixteen great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews. The family suggests memorials to be sent to the Alzheimer ' s Association, Imperial Valley Regional Office, 584-B W.
